Looking Back

past-present-future-sign1-300x281So I’m at the park near my house and I notice a bunch of people walking backwards towards me. There’s a mean looking petite woman with a white lab coat walking normally and she was guiding them with her hands behind her back.As they get closer, they seem to be from a mental institution and the woman was most likely their aid. I’m not sure if she’s doing an exercise with them or if she’s just bored and made them walk backwards to keep herself entertained.
As they passed by me they were all smiling excited as hell with their arms flailing about. Their eyes were soft and exuded an inner glow. They all looked to be having the time of their lives, squealing with joy! They were having so much fun that I even thought about getting up and moon walking. I can’t remember the last time I did that. I decided not to because the people in the park would probably think I strayed from the pack of handicapped people. Somebody probably would of grabbed my hand to walk me back to the aid. I didn’t feel like explaining myself.
They had great difficulty backwards walking too. It’s challenging enough walking normally on grass when you’re mentally impaired, especially with all the sticks and dog shit. This was quite a unique task for them. I was impressed by their determination.
As they continued on I thought about life and how we look backwards and compare our future to every past experience. When we start a new venture, we think about a past risk we took. Getting into a relationship we always think about our ex and compare it to our current. Even starting a diet becomes dreadful when we think about how miserable we felt on the last one.
Our past experiences usually dictate our future decisions. In reality it’s all bullshit and a severe limitation towards our destined path. Every single moment is a clean slate with a plethora of possibilities. It’s foolish to compare our past, or make a decision in tune with the past. When we constantly dwell on our prior experiences it restricts the opportunities that lie ahead in our future.
Especially with a negative experience, we replay it over and over again like a shitty rerun. I mean how can you move forward when you keep looking back on your past and labeling it based on prior experiences? When you do that you turn your back on the Awesomeness that wants to come into your life.
The past is like using your rear-view mirror in the car, it’s good to glance back and know what’s there, but stare too long and you’ll miss what’s right in front of you.
The bottom line is Nobody gets to live life backwards. You must Look ahead with eyes wide open and a heart full of hope. Every moment is a gift full of infinite possibilities.Your Life is like book, you’ll never enjoy it if you keep re-reading old chapters.
If you’re constantly looking back be prepared to trip on some sticks and land on some dog shit. 🙂
